Sell the sizzle not the beef. This advice is as timely today as when it was first heard of some decades ago -- especially in boosting your internet affiliate sales.

With tons of competing webmaster affiliates reaching for the same group of prospects, you will really need to have a compelling webcopy that persuades your visitors to click through to your sponsoring merchant.

Remember the competitor is just a click away, not a hundreds meters away as in the physical world.

How can you convince your visitor to click through to your web affiliate merchant to make a purchase?

The answer is compelling webcopy that pre-sells, not sell.

What makes a compelling copy, one that literally "forces" your visitor to click through to the merchant's site?

Consider these factors :

  • Use emotional words

    Most people buy to satisfy their emotional hunger and then justify their purchases with logical reasoning. So use verbs and adjectives on your internet affiliate website. Words that excite like "hot", "free", "discover", "revolutionary", "announcing", "flowing", "grab" etc, etc.

  • Create prominent headlines and sub-headlines with emotional words that drag the visitors in

    Have you ever read a newspaper without headlines? With such a newspaper, your eyes won't know where to focus and you will soon lose interest. So it is the same with your webmaster affiliate site. Break your words into easy to read sub-sections and paragrahs. It is tiring reading from the screen so make it easy for your visitor to focus and stay interested.

  • List benefits (not features) in bullets

    Show clearly what's in it for your visitors and make it easy to read. Bullets are neat and easy on the eyes. Use a soothing color to contrast the bullet text from the page background if you wish. Benefits are ultra important, nobody cares about features. People want to know about features only after they have decided to buy. So hit them hard with benefits first if you want to boost your affiliate sales.

  • Help your visitors imagine how she can benefit from your affiliate products

    Imagination is a very powerful persuasion tool. Paint a rosy picture of your visitor AFTER she used your product. Create an image of her with renewed confidence, poise, admiration or whatever you product can give her. If she can imagine, she will buy it.

  • Give clear "calls to action" on your affiliate website

    As an affiliate, you really want your visitor to click through to the merchant where she can then make a purchase. So be very clear where a visitor should click. Use arrow graphics for easy navigation. Or you can use this HTML code & # 9 6 5 8 ; (without the spaces) to display a right pointing arrow. Never leave your visitor lost or you will lose her for good.

  • Above all, write in simple English with a logical flow of words

    The majority of internet users are not English majors. Bombastic words are out. Your affiliate sales will suffer if people need to consult the dictionary just to understand what you are talking about. If you are selling a dictionary, that may be an exception. though.

It takes a lot of practice to write simply and emotionally but it can be done. Practice definitely males perfect. Experiment with different styles and see what works best.
